Hunger, Disease, and Death in Gaza

SNA (Galesburg) — The United Nations continues to urgently proclaim to the world that the civilian population of the Gaza Strip is being “stalked by hunger, disease, and death.” But these desperate pleas fall on deaf ears in Washington, both its political class and the mainstream media, which continues to be deeply beholden to the Israel Lobby, and to provide money, weapons, and political support to the ongoing mass murder.

“As the war encroaches further into Rafah, I am extremely concerned about the safety and well-being of families which have endured the unthinkable in search of safety,” declared Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths. “Further fighting in Rafah risks claiming the lives of even more people. It also risks further hampering a humanitarian operation already limited by insecurity, damaged infrastructure, and access restrictions.”

“To put it simply: This war must stop,” he concluded.

Philippe Lazzarini, commissioner-general of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), added that “more than half a million girls and boys are out of primary and secondary school in Gaza. Every day of war deepens the scars, risking a lost generation vulnerable to exploitation. Children are being robbed of childhood… I am almost becoming wordless.”

Also nearly wordless are officials of the Biden administration and Washington political establishment. They continue to back an ethnic cleansing campaign which will stain the American moral reputation for generations. Israel would not be able to carry out these foul deeds without the underlying support of the US superpower.
