SNA Forms Alliance with The Wire of India
Press Release
The news outlets The Wire (India) and Shingetsu News Agency (Japan) have agreed to partner with one another to mutually strengthen their services. The agreement includes provisions to mutually syndicate one another’s work.
Siddharth Varadarajan, founding editor of The Wire, comments, “The Wire is pleased to add the Shingetsu News Agency to our list of partner media organisations. We believe that the exchange of content will help our readers gain knowledge and insight of Japan and East Asia and hope that readers in Japan will see in us a reliable and useful window to India and South Asia.”
Michael Penn, president of the Shingetsu News Agency, comments, “We are delighted to expand our network of cooperation into the region of South Asia, and The Wire is an ideal partner for us. Like the SNA, the editors of The Wire understand that true journalism must be ‘both editorially and financially independent.’ This partnership is an obvious step forward to strengthen independent English-language journalism in Asia.”
About The Wire
The Wire is an award-winning independent, non-profit digital news platform that has emerged, in a short period of time, as an important source of news and views for Indians. It is published in English, Hindi, Urdu, and Marathi and has a separate Science portal, The Wire Science, and a site for young writers, LiveWire. The Wire was launched in 2015. In 2021, it received the Free Media Pioneer Award from the International Press Institute in Vienna.
About Shingetsu News Agency
Shingetsu News Agency (SNA) is Japan’s Progressive News Agency. Our motto is Independence, Dedication, Fearlessness. We tell the stories about Japan and the world that certain powerful interests would rather that no one tell. Unlike the rest of the well-mannered, house-trained English-language news media in Japan, we are only interested in finding out the truth as best we can and then reporting it straight. We are not another public relations outlet for the Japanese government posing as news media, but are rather gladiators in the ring, struggling on behalf of democracy, open society, and the fundamental interests of ordinary people.
