Japan a Global Leader for Plastic Pollution
SNA (Tokyo) — Japan’s plastic use is among the highest in the world. It ranks second-highest per capita worldwide. Japan’s Ministry of the Environment is aiming to combat the over-usage. Bioplastic and reusable bags have been discussed as solutions.
Roy Larke of the University of the University of Waikato stated, “I think there will be overwhelming support to ban plastic bags and retailers and government will promote it mercilessly–and probably very creatively.”
