New Abe Cabinet Setback for Female Empowerment
SNA (Tokyo) — On October 2, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe reshuffled his Cabinet. This reshuffle is Abe’s largest as prime minister. Only one woman was appointed. Abe has claimed to be an advocate for women’s empowerment. Satsuki Katayama is the only woman in Abe’s Cabinet. “If women shine, Japan will shine more and more. Japan will keep supporting [women] to utilize their experiences and play an active role in society,” Abe has said.
