The thrum of animatronics and squeals of dolls rang in the air of Tokyo for the week of June 8th, yet no children ran around with excitement. Instead, an army clad in business attire was present, though the feeling of youth remained within the customarily stoic Japanese air.
Japanese automakers are trying to put damaging corporate scandals behind them and get people to focus on designs for vehicles that are not only environmentally friendly, but packed with artificial intelligence features.
Energy conservation has become a major topic in Japan over the past few years, not only because of the suspension of nuclear reactors after the Fukushima Daiichi disaster, but also because of the higher energy bills that came with it. New technology might help in that struggle.
The Japan Travel and Tourism Association (JATA) annual “Tourism Expo Japan” wrapped up today after a three-day run. It bills itself as the largest tourism expo in the world, and it is undoubtedly very sizeable. Filling up a whole wing of Tokyo Big Sight in Odaiba, there were booths representing all 47 prefectures of Japan as well as about 150 foreign nations. In all, close to a thousand companies and organizations participated.
